From 5:30-8:00PM on Tuesday, August 13th the library will welcome the exhibit Teetotalers & Moonshiners: Prohibition in Virginia, Distilled  to the Shenandoah County Library with a special "Spirits, Still, & Temperance" event.

In addition to the travelling exhibit, this event will feature Prohibition featured refreshments and local history displays related to alcohol production and abstinence from 5:30-6:00PM. At 6:00PM we will have a free showing of the film The Wet Parade. This 1932, pre-code classic stars Dorothy Jordan, Walter Huston, Lewis Stone, Robert Young, Neil Hamilton, and Jimmy Durante in story two families during Prohibition and how they are affected by booze. This film is unrated and due to violence and adult themes, viewer discretion is advised.  This exhibit examines the history of prohibition in the Commonwealth, its costs, the rise of illegal alcohol production, and its legacy including the creation of the Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control Board and NASCAR. 

Teetotalers & Moonshiners: Prohibition in Virginia, Distilled is a traveling exhibition from the Library of Virginia presented with support from Virginia ABC and the Virginia Distillers Association. It examines the history of prohibition in the Commonwealth, its costs, the rise of illegal alcohol production, and its legacy including the creation of the Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control Board and NASCAR.
