To help our community celebrate the Shenandoah County’s rich African American history, the Shenandoah County Library is asking you to participate in our “Forgotten Figures” remembrance project.
Each February the nation and the library celebrates Black History Month. In preparing for our 2019 commemoration, we have launched this project to allow individuals to share information about African American residents of Shenandoah County, both past and present, who have had an impact on their lives or their community. These individuals will be highlighted as part of a special exhibit at the library beginning February 19, 2018 and all information shared will be preserved in the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives.
To share information about an individual for the Forgotten Figures Project, you can complete a brief form at https://bit.ly/2CKQc7D, contact Archivist Zachary Hottel, or visit the Shenandoah County Library. We also encourage the donation of historic documents, photographs, and items related to these individuals or the African American community to the Archives so we can expand our ability to tell the story of African Americans in our community.
