On Tuesday, March 27 the Shenandoah County Library will celebrate Women's History Month and the lives of local women at our program "Daughters of the Stars: Lives of Local Women."

This year's event will feature Karen Whetzel and Judy Reynolds, two local women who are leaders in their community.

Karen is a county resident who graduated from James Madison University and then worked as a teacher and administrator in the Shenandoah County Public School System for over 30 years. She currently lives in New Market where she volunteers with several community organizations such as the New Market Area Library and New Market Chamber of Commerce. Karen is also the current chairwoman of the Shenandoah County School Board and has represented District 1 on that body since 2010.

Judy began her career as a teacher with Shenandoah County Public Schools. She then served five years as the executive director of the Warren Heritage Society, two years as a Museum Educator at the New Market Battlefield, and fifteen years as the exectuive director for the Mosby Heritage Area Association. She currently lives in the Fairview Community west of Woodstock and is involved in Mt. Zion Lutheran Church and Shenandoah Valley Lutheran Ministries where she helps lead the Luke's Backpack Program. Judy also volunteers with the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives.

These two women will speak on their lives both in our local community and during their other experiences. The event will feature the two talks and a question and answer period. A special women's history exhibit featuring other local women will also be on display.

The event is free and open to the public. It will be held at the Shenandoah County Library, located at 514 Stoney Creek Blvd. Edinburg Virginia. For more information, contact Archivist Zachary Hottel.
