While the County Library is staffed by six full-time and four part-time staff members, there are always opportunities for volunteers to help the staff. In fact the County Library counts on its volunteers to perform numerous critical tasks and could not operate efficiently without them.

Volunteers are needed year-round. We have regularly scheduled activities, as well as some on-call opportunity.

Take a look at the following list of examples of work done by volunteers:

  • "Books on Wheels" Senior Outreach
  • Assisting with children's activities
  • Special mailings
  • Administrative assistance
  • Shelving materials
  • Local History Room and Archives assistance

Our libraries run on Volunteer Power! More than 100 volunteers contribute at least 150 hours per week to keep our libraries running.

Completed through a partnership between our archives, JMU, and the owners of Bird Haven Farm, this site contained 14 oral history from the Bird Haven area in western Shenandoah County and focuses on the Shenandoah Community Workers woodworking factory in that area.
